Packing and moving

The time has come to start packing stuff up to get ready to move. Several of the big items I'm sending down to dad and mom's since they recently moved into another house. Dad and Graham came up with the stock trailer (cleaned out! :)) to move it down there.

3-D Thomas the Tank Engine Cake

I attempted a 3-D cake for the first time and was quite happy with the results. Not being familiar with 3-D pans, I didn't know what quite to expect while it was cooking. I looked online and found a good cake batter recipe as a regular cake mix by itself wouldn't be firm enough. The batter was quite thick and the pan started to over flow while it was cooking. I started to slightly panic and then did a quick search online and found out that overflowing is normal and actual expected (though I probably could have put a little less batter in and still been okay). It meant that the pan had completely filled so the shape of the cake would be right.

I made a triple batch of the cake recipe so I would have enough batter to make a car behind Thomas.

I used Wilton tips and colours for the decorating. The blue turned out a bit darker than the Thomas blue. There is always that fine guessing how dark it will dry. :)

Got the base of the face done and called it a night because I didn't want to be doing the most important details when I was tired. I wanted the face to look exactly like Thomas, not a pinterest fail attempt. lol.

Filling in the last of the details. I was pleased with the end result!

And, thankfully, the cake made the trip down the road safely for my nephew's birthday. :)

Happy 3rd Birthday, Willy!

Wildlife in my yard

I think this fawn had just been born. It was tiny and still wobbly on its feet. One of my favourite things about living here has been the wildlife that wander through my yard - moose, deer, rabbits...

A bridal shower and baby shower

A couple weeks ago I planned and held a bridal shower for my sister, Erin, and a surprise baby shower for my sister-in-law, Sherra. Only had a few days to prepare so it was a bit crazy but a lot of fun.

I had gotten some new cake pans from Michaels and used the petal shaped one for Erin's. And, a side note, that IH coffee mug was a funny gift from Erin and and her fiance, Bradley, since they know I like JD. At least coffee still tastes the same in it. haha.

I came across this "cookie in a jar" idea online ( Cowgirl Cookies) and there was even a link to print out those cute labels and baking directions.

Candy molds for the baby shower cake. I'm so excited that a Bulk Barn opened up in Yorkton as they have a great cake decorating section with pans, coloured discs, molds, and many other cake related supplies.

Viva paper towels work completely amazing for smoothing out the butter cream.
Done! And thankfully it survived the 1 1/2 hour trip down to the seed farm where we had the party. :)

 The baby shower cake table.

:)

Diaper cakes. Erin had fun putting them together.

My cute niece. Love the headband! :)

Graham making his amazing stuffed mushrooms.

 Erin's cake and gift table

You can't go wrong with chocolate, right?!

Erin, Sherra, and Emily helped get this spread ready.

I used a heart shaped cookie cutter for the butter.

We played a few games.

Sherra (baby shower) and Erin (bridal shower).

Say "Awwwww" :) I'll have four nieces when Sherra has her baby!

 Opening gifts

And another cute niece. :)

Sherra had lots of help opening her gifts. :)

12" of snow in 24 hours!

The last few inches of snow were very light and fluffy. So pretty!

I thought my lamp post looked cool. :)

I need to shovel my roof off!

My yard with the poor, lonesome, crooked tree. :P

Going out to chore. 25kph N wind. Brrr...

So glad I just got winter tires on my farm truck!

My driveway

Doing chores at my neighbour's. Pretty much had to dig out a path everywhere I walked.
